It's too bad there seems to be next to zero discussion on these blogs these days.

While I'm not a huge fan of prolonging a players career for the sake of reaching a milestone (Phillips and Neil) it certainly is quite an accomplishment to achieve with one NHL team.

He was a key player during the Sens best years. Was able to get under the skin of other teams and contribute on the scoresheet from time to time. Too bad the game 1000th game is happening in LA at freakin 4 pm.

Agree with both the lack of talk on the board and your comments on Neil. Definitely had some memorable years but I also think this milestone is aided by a couple charitable contracts in a Neil's favour.
Lots of arguing about retiring his jersey going on.. thoughts??

I think the Senators will retire Phillips and Neil at some point. Do I agree that they should be? Not really. However, it seems like something that is bound to happen. This team has very little modern history to brag about. Having guys who play 1000 games in the same jersey is pretty impressive. We all know the Sens PR and stuff like that is a little, pedestrian...

Personally, I think retired numbers should be reserved for Hall of Fame level players or slightly below that. However, other teams have retired players who are far from Hall worthy as well, so it's likely to happen.

While I don't agree Phillips and Neil's numbers should be retired, it would certainly look cool to have those two and Alfie in the rafters in the new downtown stadium.

I agree all around..... need more chatter, 11, 4, and 25 should hang from the rafters, if for nothing else 1000 games in a Sens jersey... great careers, great ambassadors....
